Mr. Jan Rhian Angulo

Fullstack Developer

I build reliable, maintainable web applications — from API design and backend systems to performant front-end interfaces and thoughtful UX. I focus on clean architecture, testing, and shipping value. As a lifelong learner, I stay updated with the latest technologies and best practices to deliver high-quality solutions. When I'm not coding, I enjoy hiking, photography, and exploring new tech trends. I'm passionate about creating impactful digital experiences that solve real-world problems.

Off work, I spend my time on Drums and Guitars. One thing about me is that I love to travel and explore new places. I also enjoy reading books on technology, self-improvement, and fiction. I'm always eager to connect with like-minded professionals and explore new opportunities. Taking my talent to the next level is one of the challenge I really want to master. Even so far, I am still on the process of learning and improving my skills.

My History

Milestones that shaped my journey

  1. First time discovering the beauty and complexity of modern technology. I have my Nokia 3210 phone since it was the only phone my parents can afford.

I always visited the settings and tweak it until I accidentally put it on a different language I manage to get it back just by following patterns.

  2. The day I got my first touch screen phone, amazed by its core functionality it's my first time experiencing using touch screens. This is because I came across a phone which is doesn't have contact information.

This is also my first time discovering the internet. This is where everything is getting started.

  3. After getting exposed by the internet I manage to slipped into one of the most dangerous web which is the dark web. Since I was a fan of free stuff I tend to search modded apps which is I end up into one link that change my entire knowledge.

With such an innocent mind I explore the dark web without knowing it searching for some modded apps that my little heart can be happy.

  4. Addicted by a game with such a young mind I spend most of my time doing logical systems inside the game which at my age of 13 I began to understand what's happening under the circuits.

I really loved this game and often spent my time playing it after school.

  5. The game is so good that it's been flooded by exploiters once the game I admire as beautiful as the sun and relaxing as the moon, ends up being abandoned by its own developers. Hackers, exploits and bugs emerge.

And it came to a point it shuts down.

  6. Devastated by the news I spend my time finding another game to cope my self, but no matter what I do it keeps bringing me back, to the point I asked myself how I can create a game?

With an innocent mind with burning passion I opened my browser and search how to create a game and I end up disappointed. I didn't know at that time it was that hard with no laptop to learn.

  7. But since I was called by my dream I spent my time reading books learning linux basic commands and some sort of stuff. I began troubleshooting my friends phone to buy myself food.

But my dream to be a game developer never leaves me, but it haunts me. Even so I want to learn we don't have the money to afford a device or even think-pads.

  8. After Covid struct and technology arises this is where more information got flooded on the internet every single day. I was astray like I don't know what to do as a last resort I beg to my mom,

Why not find a school where I can learn how to make a game?

  9. This leads me to a school and end up as a Computer Science Student. I met experts and professionals. Having access to free resources and boosted my own understanding at programming.

And then my history goes on until soon I will be the best Game Developer and I will recreate the game once I lost.

My Childhood

I grew up as a simple person without programming knowledge. My family didn't have much, but we had each other. I was born in a small town in the Philippines, where I spent most of my childhood playing outside with friends and exploring nature. My parents worked hard to provide for us, and they always encouraged me to pursue my dreams. I was fascinated by technology from a young age, and I would often take apart old electronics to see how they worked, to the point a 220V of electricity almost erase my entire existence. My Mom and Dad were not happy about that incident, but they were relieved that I was okay. They found out my strange behavior about school instead of going to learn and follow the system and curriculum, I cut and ditch my class to go to the library and read books about computers and technology. This curiosity eventually led me to discover programming, and I was hooked. Despite the challenges, I was determined to learn and improve my skills. I spent countless hours studying online resources, practicing coding exercises, and building small projects. Over time, I gained more confidence and experience, and I eventually landed my first job as a junior developer. Looking back, I'm grateful for my humble beginnings and the lessons I learned along the way. They taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of following my passions. Today, I'm proud of how far I've come, and I'm excited to see where my journey will take me next.

Metro Dumaguete College

B.S. Computer Science — 2024 – Current

Focused on software engineering, algorithms, and system design. Participated in collaborative projects, led a campus developer group, and contributed to student open-source initiatives. At first, I struggled with balancing coursework and personal projects, but over time I developed strong time management skills and a disciplined work ethic. I also learned the importance of networking and building relationships with peers and professors. These experiences have shaped my approach to problem-solving and teamwork, and I am excited to apply these skills in my future career as a developer.

My Desktop — Arch + Hyprland

A minimal, high-performance setup for development and focus.

My workstation runs Arch Linux with Hyprland as the Wayland compositor. The setup is tuned for responsiveness, tiling workflows, and minimal distractions: Hyprland for window management, Sway/Hyprland configs for keyboard-driven navigation, Alacritty as terminal, and a lightweight bar and notification stack. I optimize for fast context switching, reproducible dotfiles, and performant tooling (neovim, node, docker). Screenshots show my typical workspace layout and theming.

Sir Lawrence (aka "Sir Law") has been my mentor and guide throughout my programming journey. At first I was really scared to interact with him because he is really strict well I can tell. But despite of its strictness, he is also very kind and patient. He always encourages me to push my limits and never give up. He has taught me the importance of discipline, hard work, and perseverance. I am grateful for his guidance and support, and I hope to one day be able to mentor others as he has mentored me. He even hunt me when I cut class and ditch school to learn on online resources.

One of my partners in times of need, even though we fight head to head sometimes friendship still reigns. Why find some enemy when you have a friend like him. Often times we betray each other for fun, but when it comes to serious programming we work like a team he's the mind im the body and this combo turns into one big living soul. But the lesson in here is no matter how friends fight each other at the end of the day you are still tied to them. Just embrace the moment of and enjoy the memories to come by.
